Alec Baldwin Struggled with Suicidal Thoughts After Rust Tragedy, Says Wife Hilaria

New Delhi: Model Hilaria Baldwin revealed that her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, contemplated suicide in the aftermath of the tragic shooting incident on the set of Rust in 2021. The accident, which occurred when Baldwin’s prop gun discharged, led to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and left the actor grappling with survivor’s guilt.

In a recent episode of their TLC reality show, The Baldwins, Hilaria, 41, disclosed to a friend that she had recently revisited text messages exchanged with her husband the day after the shooting.

Baldwin’s Emotional and Physical Toll

"He told me he wanted to kill himself. He has survivor’s guilt. He replays that day over and over and wishes it had been him instead of Halyna. He would trade places in a second," she said.

Hilaria further revealed that Baldwin, 66, has suffered multiple health issues, including heart problems, and has been hospitalized several times since the incident.

Meanwhile, Baldwin himself admitted that his career has suffered significantly following the shooting.

“Opportunities for jobs have been few and far between because of this situation. A lot of people in the industry turned their backs on me. I’ve accepted that I can’t be as selective with roles as I used to be,” he shared in the episode.

Hutchins’ Family Criticizes Reality Show

The show, which follows the lives of the Baldwins and their seven children in the lead-up to Alec’s legal battles, has drawn backlash from Hutchins’ family, who accuse the actor of monetizing the tragedy.

In a statement issued through attorney Gloria Allred, Hutchins’ parents Olga Solovey and Anatolii Androsovych, along with her sister Svetlana Zemko, condemned Baldwin’s participation in the reality series.

"Alec Baldwin has only added to Halyna’s family’s pain by using this tragedy to boost his fame and financial gain through a TLC reality show. Instead of taking responsibility, he portrays himself as a victim after shooting and killing Halyna," said Allred.

She also claimed Baldwin has never personally apologized to Hutchins' parents.

Ongoing Legal Battle

While the manslaughter charges against Baldwin were dropped in July 2023, the actor remains entangled in legal disputes. In June 2024, script supervisor Mamie Mitchell filed a civil lawsuit against him, adding to the ongoing legal challenges he faces.
